Portrait of an Indian Classical Dancer and
Visual Artist Kuldeep Singh
by Pablo Lecroisey
Portrait of artist Kuldeep in my old study in New York City.
This photograph clearly influenced by the avant-garde movements in the early 20th century, particularly by the Dutch De Stijl or Neoplasticism. Piet Mondrian’s moral ideals and his reflections on the role of the arts in modulating society are particularly relevant to this work, which we can see both in their composition and in execution.
Colour, geometry and the elaborate composition, as well as the emotional overload experienced by the participant resulted in this disturbing photograph that nevertheless transmit calm, freshness and joy.
